Sand Hallow State Park Sand Dunes

Sand Hollow is a very popular, very scenic state park in Southern Utah. Sand Hollow State Park features a 1,322-acre reservoir and 15,000 acres of dunes for off-road vehicles. Just 15 miles East of St George, Sand Hollow provides activities for everybody. Whether you hike, bike, boat, fish, or camp; you’ll be satisfied by all that Sand Hollow has to offer.

Sand Dunes
Part of the Sand Hollow State Park is Sand Mountain sand dune.  There is over 15,000 acres of beautifully sculpted dunes. Just a few hundred yards from the edge of the water is a large parking area to unload your toys.  From here you can stay close and ride around the lake shores, or you can follow the croud and head through the tunnel, under the road, and up the mountain.  The mountain is a good mix of sandy dunes and hard sandstone rock formations.

As you weave in and out of the rock formations, you will soon reach the summit where it is almost solid sand with only a few rock formations.  This is a fun place to jump the sand dunes or just cruise around if you are on a 4x4.  There is a long flat spot where riders will race to test the ability of their machine, and there is also a steep sandy draw up a mountain of rock where racers will see who can make it to the top first if at all.  It is not likely that you will be able to climb this particular draw without sand paddles. While you are up there, enjoy the views of the lake and valley. Sand Mountain makes Sand Hollow a favorite destination for local off-highway vehicle (OHV) enthusiasts.
