Quail Creek Reservoir

Located just south of I-15, approximately 13 miles northeast of St. George, lies the ever popular Quail Creek Reservoir. If you’re wondering why it’s so popular, you need to look no farther than the water. Quail Creek Reservoir has some of the warmest waters in the state, and on top of that it has a very mild winter climate. The combination of those two things lures boaters and anglers in year round.

The maximum depth of Quail Creek can reach down to 120 feet, making it cold enough to sustain the stocked rainbow trout, bullhead catfish, and crappie. Other stocked fish such as Largemouth bass thrive with the bluegill in the warmer, upper layers of the reservoir.

Though the Quail Creek State Park is no more than a 10 minute drive from the nearest Wal-Mart, you would never know because it feels like you’re in the middle of nowhere. You could spend a day on the water or visit a nearby state or national park (Sand Hollow State Park and Zion National Park), and then retire to a campsite in a spectacular red rock desert setting. Quail Creek State Park has phenomenal year round camping. Back-in and pull-through sites are available, some of them even offering water hookups, for tent camping as well as RVs up to 35 feet. The park, however, does not have any group campsites.
